Survey Suggests that a Definition of Sustainable Development is Required
A recent survey carried out by Planning Magazine – the journal of the Royal Town Planning Institute has showed that some 80% of Local Authority planners, and 37% of Planning Consultants consider that the Government should introduce a legal definition of sustainable development. The concerns raised by Local Authorities may well be attributable to the emerging National Planning Policy Framework which is proposing the introduction of a presumption in favour of sustainable development. Planning Consultants on the other hand may well see the benefit of the new policy framework and its potential to assist schemes in coming to fruition.
