Government Considers Planning Guarantee
The Coalition Government has signalled its intention to introduce a planning guarantee to ensure that no application for planning permission in England, including any associated appeal, takes longer than 12 months to be determined. The aim is to provide certainty to both developers and local residents.
The proposal is yet to be fully worked up, but it is anticipated that Local Authorities will need to show that they are performing against the guarantee. It has arisen because of the 3,200 applications which took longer than 52 weeks to be determined during 2010-11. This proposal is likely to be accompanied by reductions in the amount of information required to accompany planning applications.
